Today we’re setting up for the weekend. It’s drizzly out there, but it won’t dampen our enthusiasm. Looking forward to a great weekend!
We’re almost there! Setup will be Friday afternoon beginning at 1 pm and going until we’re done. Access to the operations area will be from Reed Alley off East Campus Rd. To get to Reed Alley, go south on East Campus Rd. As you approach the stadium (going down the hill) slow down and look for Gate 4. You’ll access from there. Park your car and go immediately to the operations area to sign in and get your identification badge. Call the Stadium Crew on 146.550 simplex as you approach the stadium for talk-in and last minute instructions.
Keep an eye on this blog and/or the web page. We’ll be posting updates throughout the 30 hour event!
Just a little over a week until the Special Event Station – Hedge Fun: 30 Hours for 30 Years – begins operation! Confirmations are going out for operating schedules, and so if you haven’t registered go on over to the web site and get your name on the list!
Dress for the event will be business casual. We want to present a good “face” for amateur radio, and we want everyone looking good! Dark shirts and dark or khaki slacks or shorts for the guys, dark blouses and skirts/slacks/shorts for the ladies. Please, no jeans!! The press will be there as will the general public. We want them to take away a good impression of amateur radio and the people that pursue the hobby.
If you’d like to come help set up, be at the stadium around 3 pm. Watch this space – we’ll be posting information frequently as we get closer to the event, and during the event. Talk-in will be on 146.550 simplex as you approach the stadium.
Looking forward to seeing or hearing you next weekend!
Bob – KE4JLL

========> PUTTING ON THE DAWG Okay, so they aren't exactly "putting on the dawg", but Athens area hams WILL be operating special event station K4UGA from the University of GA's Sanford Stadium on October 10 and 11. According to the information provided by BOB HERRIN, KE4JLL, kick off is at 9AM Saturday, when members of the Athens Radio Club, the Northeast Georgia Radio Club, and the Oconee County Amateur Radio Society will start calling CQ for what's to be a 30-hour operating event in commemoration of the thirty years that area hams have provided communications for the Red Cross, and for the university, during home football games. And guess what? Walk-ons are invited to participate! If you'd like to operate, don't forget to bring a copy of your license. With plans to set up 3 HF stations, 2M, 6M, and a satellite station, this'll be a larger operation than some folks enjoyed during field day. Sounds like this promises to be a howling success. And you are cordially invited to run with the dawgs.
Welcome to the information blog of the 30 Hours for 30 Years special event ham radio station. Here you can find information about the special event station that will operate from 9 am Eastern Standard Time on October 10, 2009 through 3 pm October 11. We’re commemorating 30 years of amateur radio support of the Red Cross and the University of Georgia at home football games. The special event station will operate from Sanford Stadium on the University of Georgia campus!
